When you’re turning or driving downhill on a slippery road, the Volvo FH’s Stretch Brake kicks in to help prevent jack-knifing. It works by applying braking pulses to the trailer, which stretches the vehicle combination. You can choose to automatically activate the Stretch Brake in risky situations, at speeds up to 50 km/h. Stretch brake is available for both rigid trucks and tractors.
In heavy traffic, radar and camera-based Adaptive Cruise Control helps you keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front by controlling the accelerator and all available brakes. If there is a risk of impact, our intuitive Collision Warning system alerts you by projecting a light onto your windscreen. And the Emergency Brake automatically activates, significantly reducing the risk of severe injuries.
Drifting out of lane is a common cause of serious accidents. Too common, we think. Lane Keeping Support tracks road markings with a camera, and alerts you if you unintentionally cross them.
Driver Alert Support is an intelligent system that tracks your driving behaviour. If it differs from normal and indicates tiredness, you’re alerted by a signal and a message in the display, advising you to take a break.
When activated, Lane Changing Support uses radar technology to scan the blind spot on your passenger side for other road users. If it’s not safe to change lanes, you’re alerted with a buzzer and a flashing icon next to the passenger mirror.
Volvo’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC) efficiently reduces the risk of skidding and rollovers. In risky situations it instantly steps in, reducing engine power and applying brakes to each wheel of the truck and trailer individually. ESC is now available for most truck specifications – both tractors and rigids.
If you slam on the brakes, the brake lights flash rapidly to alert the vehicles behind you – an easy way of avoiding life threatening rear-end collisions.
